Concert Band

The Kapa'a High School Concert Band is the main ensemble of our instrumental music program consisting of all instrumentalists grades 9 - 12. Most active in winter and spring, they primarily perform in concerts, collaborate with other music programs and conduct clinics throughout the island to promote music education in the schools.

In order to audition for any of the auxiliary ensembles, students are required to enroll in Band and maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA in all of their music classes. They also serve as the Marching Band during the summer and fall.

In the classroom students gain a foundation of knowledge in order to learn and improve their craft. Music theory, composition and solo and small ensemble performances are a staple in the program. 95% of the students in the program learn to play proficiently on two or more instruments.

The repertoire of the concert band varies throughout the year according to the concert. The Winter Concert consists of Classical, folk and holiday pieces, The Pops Concert uses popular music, the Spring Concert utilizes contemporary works and the Aloha Concert is theme-based and features mini-musicals.

Warrior Marching Band

Most active in the Fall, The Kapa'a High School Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard serve as the most visible entity of our program and our school. They perform at football games, homecoming halftime shows, parades, festivals, and various community events on the island. Most known for their corps-style marching, dynamic field shows and parade exhibitions, our "Band of Warriors" will continue to follow their two mantras: "Work Hard. Play Harder. Like a Warrior," and "200 Hours of Pain for 20 Minutes of Fame."

THE KAPA‘A HS INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM

The Instrumental Music Program provides students with the opportunity to develop musical skills, a lifelong appreciation for music, and the necessary discipline to achieve musical and non-musical successes. They have fun meeting and making new friends, traveling to performances on- and off-island, and learning to promote tolerance and personal growth. Students also learn the importance of individual responsibility, cooperative learning and participation within several performance ensembles.

The Instrumental Band Program serves as both the Marching Band in the Fall and the Concert Band in the Winter and Spring. Throughout the year, they perform at football games, community parades, concerts, and at off-island competitive events. The band program also has four optional auxiliary ensembles that provide students an opportunity to further develop their musical talents: Na Pahu Koa, Percussion Ensemble, Swing Band and Dance Band.
